Ôpen
Promoting community life and the transition to a more environmentally and socially sustainable and resilient economy and society: this is the vision of Ôpen, a community centre in Junglinster.
To this end, Ôpen provides a welcoming, open and shared meeting place, where the space, activities and services are conceived and designed for and by local residents and project partners (charities, businesses and public authorities).
As a space fostering social and generational diversity, it works to revitalise social ties and encourage the adoption of sustainable lifestyles. Run by the venue’s various users with the support of a paid coordinator, it facilitates both individual and collective initiatives.
As a flagship project for the Climate Pact and the Pakt Vum Zesummeliewen (PVZ, i.e. the Pact for Living Together), Ôpen promotes the values of social inclusion and environmental sustainability
with a view to creating a fairer, more resilient and more environmentally friendly society and economy. It will be a community hub at the heart of the village of Junglinster. In keeping with the values it promotes, Ôpen organises its governance in a sociocratic manner in order to foster and ensure the long-term engagement and inclusion of its users.
Thanks to Ôpen, the municipality of Junglinster has joined the small number of municipalities that support the creation of third places within their boundaries, such as Esch-sur-Alzette, Clervaux, Diekirch, Beaufort, Differdange, Dudelange and Roodt-sur-Syre, thereby enhancing its appeal and confirming its leading role in the field of environmental and social innovation. The project also has significant potential to be replicated and to serve as a model in neighbouring villages or municipalities, or at national level.
